Team Favorites

Featuring Lily

And Her Favorite Wine

Meet Lily, a face you'll see regularly at the Noisy Water Winery tasting room in Cloudcroft, NM! Lily's  favorite wine is the 2019 Gewürztraminer, not only because it's delicious but its origins and rich history. Alsace is a historical region in northeastern France and this wine has been produced in this region for hundreds of years! You can taste the love and dedication in it.

She also has a special place in her heart for this wine because it was the first wine she tasted in her introductory sommelier course to work for Noisy Water Winery.

Lily loves to pair the 2019 Gewürztraminer with the Spicy Tuna Udon Bowl from a local restaurant in Cloudcroft, New Mexico. Gewürztraminers are known for having subtly sweet and spicy notes and the best pairings happen with this wine when you step outside of traditional French cuisine and experience other foods of the world.

2019 Gewürztraminer

  $24.00

Inspiration:

Modern winemaking: Showcasing the spicy and sweet notes of this varietal, along with a hat tip to one of the world's favorite wines.

Taste:

Nose of peaches, lavender, and cinnamon.  Perfectly sweet meets delicate, mulling spices on the first sip, with a gorgeously sweet orchard finish.

Wine Of The Week - 2018 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon

We have taken to referring to our 2018 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon as the “Michael Phelps” of our wine catalog. Looking at the bottle on our tasting room shelf is reminiscent of seeing Phelps standing on the pedestal with a stunning array of medals around his neck. You can’t even see our label! But what is the hoopla all about?

Well, let’s start with the fact that our Cabernet Sauvignon was awarded a 92 point rating (outstanding) on the prestigious James Suckling list, in addition to numerous awards from the New Mexico state fair competition, Fingerlakes International Wine Competition, and the San Francisco Chronicle wine competition. Then let’s see WHY it rates so highly among critics and wine lovers of all kinds.

2018 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon

Produced from some of the greatest hidden gems in the New Mexico wine industry. These vines were planted in 1986 and have thrived in our unforgiving landscape ever since.

$58.00

Taking 100% Old Vine Cabernet Sauvignon, mostly free run juice, and aging it in mixed French, Hungarian, and American oak for 18 months, our winemaker created a Cabernet with dark, rich colors, tannins that burst onto the palate, and a backbone of complex berries and plums. Bone dry and full-bodied, this wine is a perfect reflection of who we are as winemakers and showcases the best of what New Mexico has to offer.

Is this the culmination of over ten years of creating wines solely from New Mexico grapes in the little mountain resort area of Ruidoso? Not yet. There are still many grapes to harvest and wines to produce in years to come.

But we’re heading in a good direction!

“If you want to be the best, you have to do things that other people aren’t willing to do.”

Holiday Wine Guide

BUYING WINE FOR THE HOLIDAYS

A Field Guide Pt 1

THANKSGIVING DINNER

There are 4 components that traditionally go into a Thanksgiving dinner:

  1. PROTEIN: Turkey or ham
  2. ROASTED DISHES: Green bean casserole, or anything baked in the oven
  3. DRY SPICES: Cinnamon, clove, dried herbs
  4. WINTER FRUIT AND VEGETABLES: Squash, Brussel sprouts, onion, cranberry and potato

When you start to think about all of the ingredients that go into making Thanksgiving dinner, you begin to eliminate wines that possess flavors that are opposite of the flavors you would taste in your feast! Ideally, the goal is to match similar or complimenting flavors found in your meal and in wine! A dry red wine, for example, mirrors those similar flavors like nutmeg and dark fruits that are more in line with the flavor profiles in the entree of your meal.

We recommend a Pinot Noir, Zinfandel or a Barbara/ Gamay blend:

ON TO DESSERT

Pumpkin Pie is a staple dessert at Thanksgiving and is the perfect fall holiday treat. The mulling spices and honeyed fruit flavors found in sweeter white wines pairs up well with the rounder flavor of pumpkin and can handle the fall spices.

We recommend the 2019 Moscato and 2019 Gewürztraminer

Don't gamble on a cute label at the grocery store: keep your wine rack stocked with your favorite small producer!

Cheers!

How To Taste Wine & Develop Your Palate Like a Pro

How to Taste Wine Like a Pro

 ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌

4 Steps to Tasting Wine:

1: LOOK. Give your glass of wine a visual inspection in neutral light. Check out the color, opacity and viscosity.

2: SMELL. Identify aromas by swirling your wine 3 or 4 times to let the aromatic compounds of the wine mix with the air. Think big to small. Ask yourself are there fruits? What kind of fruits? Tropical? Orchard?

  • You can divide the aroma of a wine into three separate categories: Primary Aromas are where you find fruit, herb and floral notes. Secondary Aromas originate from winemaking practices (fermentation, etc). And Tertiary Aromas come from aging, usually in a bottle or an oak barrel. These aromas are mostly nutty, vanilla, baking spices and cedar.

3: TASTE. Assess the taste structure of the wine. Is it sour, sweet, bitter? Pay attention the the texture of the wine. We perceive wine as richer than water and we can also detect tannins with our tongues, which is that drying sensation you get from dry red wines. When tasting wine, there is a beginning, middle and end finish, so focus in on how the wine tastes as it moves through your mouth.

4: THINK. What conclusion have you drawn about the wine? Was it unique or memorable? Were there any characteristics that stood out to you?

Let's put the 4 steps to the test.

2016 Curtain Call

  $40.00

1. LOOK. Deep purple color. Saturation and density are heavy and is full-bodied.

2: SMELL. Heavy dark orchard fruit. Primary aroma of black cherry and tertiary aromas of vanilla.

3: TASTE. Pitted fruits and blackberries. Silky smooth beginning and mid-palate, finishes bone dry.

4: THINK. The deep and dark fruits are complimented by a slight vanilla aroma and flavor which balances the flavors. Perfect wine to pair with performing arts, or any reason for a curtain call.

Don't gamble on a cute label at the grocery store: keep your wine rack stocked with your favorite small producer!

Cheers!

Wine Of The Week - 2018 Nebbiolo

Nebbiolo: the name sounds mysterious, intriguing, enticing. Something that is somehow unknowable, indefinable, and—dare we say, nebulous?—waiting for an adventurous soul to take the first step to discover what treasures and mysteries it holds.

Nebbiolo is a red wine grape that originated in the Piedmont region of Italy… much like Noisy Water’s winemaker did, by way of his mother. Depending on who you ask, the grape either derived its name from the fog (nebbia or nebia) that takes place during the harvest season in the region where many Nebbiolo vineyards exist, or it comes from the fog-like “veil” that forms over the grapes as they ripen.

2018 Nebbiolo

A harmonious dance between rich, ripe fruit and smooth vanilla flavors.

$33.00

Noisy Water’s Nebbiolo is a full-bodied dry red wine, aged ten months in neutral, French, and American oak. The aroma of rich berries and vanilla roll in on the nose, with soft fruit and strong tannins on a cranberry finish. Dry and yet still easy to drink, its dark, rich color hints at the flavors to be found in the depths of your glass.

Perfectly at home in front of a roaring fire on a cold night, it’s ready to warm you up and complement a plate of cheese and fruit for one or for a crowd. Pair it with good friends and holiday cheer!

“…Every man has to find his own way…And I have faith in you. But your fly is open.”
— Don Pedro Aragon (Anthony Quinn) to Paul Sutton (Keanu Reeves) in “A Walk in the Clouds”

Beaujolias

N U E V O  N O U V E A U

30 million bottles of wine are shipped out around the world within 60 days of grape harvest from eastern France’s Beaujolais region.

Released on the third Thursday of November at 12:01 a.m. every year since 1951

Sound impossible? Hardly. We have a bottle just for you.

New Beginnings

As the name implies, Nuevo (Beaujolais) Nouveau, is "new" - young, that is - and is bottled less than two months after crushing the grapes.

In the 1950s, winemakers began competing each year in a race to deliver the first bottles to Paris, and before we knew it the competition had been pushed and publicized enough that the harvest and distribution of this wine is now celebrated all over the world at exactly midnight on the third Thursday of November, when it is legal to pop a bottle open.

Taste

Fresh, youthful and vibrant with lush, juicy aromas of grape, raspberry, fig, banana, and cranberries. This is as close as you can get to drinking wine straight from the vine.

Pairing

A superb match for turkey, right in time for Thanksgiving.

$29.00

November in the wine industry marks the conclusion of harvest and the beginning of wine making. We are making room in the production facility and putting new vintages in the bottle! Here is what November will look like at Noisy Water Winery!

 ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌

 November is here!

November in the wine industry marks the conclusion of harvest and the beginning of wine making.  We are now transferring 2018 and 2019 red wines from barrel to bottle, and 2020 white wines from tank to bottle.  Keep your eyes open for new vintages - many will be coming out in the next few months as we make room in the winery for new wine!

It is likely that 2017 and 2018 vintages will be transferred to the library soon - don't forget to stock up on your favorites before they go on reserve!

Attn: this vintage of Pinot Noir is now in low supply...

Guess what... We are officially out of 2018 Dolcetto!

2018 Dolcetto

Dolcetto translates to "little sweet one" - though this wine is not sweet, it is delicate and bright and certainly makes us feel sweeter!

  $35.00

It is gone for now, but not for long.

We'll be bottling the latest vintage of Dolcetto soon - stay tuned friends!

November also marks the beginning of truffle hunting season!

We honor this magical time of year by indulging in decadent truffle oil! Have you tried it?

It is amazing (obviously) on Italian dishes like risotto and pasta carbonara, but it is also wonderful for marinating meats, enhancing egg scrambles and hashes, and drizzling on popcorn with sea salt.

Check it out...

Black Truffle Oil

Cold pressed oil infused with black truffles.

The intense heat of summer brought harvest early this year. We spent much of the fall season drinking Uncle Dick's Hard Cider and playing frisbee golf after work at Enchanted Vine - the weather felt almost too nice late into October.  Then, out of no where, we had our first snow day of year! We spent the day snuggled up at home, pretending we couldn't possibly work, playing cards, and drinking our favorite snowy day wines!

This little taste of winter got us pretty excited for the holiday season. We can't wait for all the food, wine, and family time!

Don't forget to come see us at our wine production facility every Sunday for our weekly market!

Come see us:

Enchanted Vine

492 Ft Stanton Rd

Alto, NM 88312

You might have missed out on the November shipment...

But you can still sign up to receive the next Wine Club shipment!

Wine Club Perks

Wine club members get:

  •  Complimentary tastings daily
  • Exclusive event invitations to Noisy Water events
  • Discounts on every single wine purchase!

We hope this November brings you plenty of opportunities to make memories with your loved ones and that the holiday food and wine leave your belly and heart feeling full!

Happy November friends!

Wine Of The Week - 2018 Zia Chardonnay

One of the first white wines most people encounter and the experience is almost always memorable, for various reasons.

 ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌

Chardonnay is one of the first white wines most people encounter and the experience is almost always memorable, for various reasons. In my case, the first time I tasted Chardonnay was back in the ‘80s when it reached its peak of popularity… and at the time, winemakers were particularly enamored of oaky Chardonnays. VERY oaky Chardonnays. And a little oak goes a long, long way!

My next experience was with Noisy Water Winery’s Zia Chardonnay. To my surprise, it had no oak at all. Because the Chardonnay grape is fairly neutral by itself, this particular varietal lends itself to be molded and shaped into a unique wine according to the winemaker’s skills and whims. In this case, Zia Chardonnay was aged in stainless steel—Old World meets the New World in a marriage of a traditional grape with a contemporary aging process. As a result, it was smoother, easier to drink, a wine that would be as perfectly at home at a picnic table or the patio as it would be on the formal dinner table.

Zia Chardonnay

A complex Chardonnay that can make everyone happy. Traditional collides with new age.

$22.00

Medium bodied and semi-dry, with a slight minerality, this Chardonnay is perfect to pair with seafood and fruit. Along with crisp citrus notes with a buttery finish, there is a perfect balance of vanilla and fruit on the nose, making this a perfect wine to drink on its own on a warm sunny day. If you think all Chardonnays are the same, try Zia Chardonnay and prepare to experience Chardonnay again for the first time!

Named Zia after the symbol on the New Mexico state flag and robed in a label the color of turquoise, the state gem of New Mexico, this wine epitomizes the spirit of the state—unique, daring, and of undeniable beauty. It’s no wonder it was awarded a silver medal at the New Mexico State Fair in 2018 and it is sure to enchant dry and sweet drinkers alike.

“You can’t beat a nice glass of Chardonnay after a long, hard day.”

Wine Of The Week - 2018 Sauvignon Blanc

inspired by the refreshing mountain rains there is something to be said about the quality of this dry white

 ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌

Noisy Water Winery claims its 2018 Sauvignon Blanc was inspired by the refreshing mountain rains. Certainly there is something to be said about the quality of this dry white and equating it with rain showers in the cool pines of Ruidoso!

Originating in France and one of the most widely planted wine grapes in the world, Sauvignon Blanc also has one of the largest ranges of flavors depending on where it is grown. It can range from a kicky, citrusy lime flavor to a rich, floral orchard fruit taste. Pyrazine is an aromatic compound found in Sauvignon Blanc that is responsible for the signature herbaceous quality of the wine. Depending on the age of the grapes and other factors, such as exposure to sunlight, the pyrazine level can enhance the flavor and finish of the wine.

2018 Sauvignon Blanc

Prepare your senses for this wonderfully easy-to-drink white wine!

$27.00

Noisy Water’s Sauvignon Blanc boasts fresh fruit on the nose, hints of peaches and pineapple, with a crisp and slightly acidic finish that makes it a easy-to-drink, perfectly balanced white wine. It has a crisp, dry finish and pairs well with all things green and fresh, especially dishes prepared with fresh basil, cilantro, rosemary, mint, and bell pepper or jalapeño. Pair with goat cheese or seafood; the briny flavor balances out the acidity of the wine.

Pour a glass of 2018 Sauvignon Blanc and feel the kiss of mountain rain on your tongue. It might inspire you to take a trip to the cool pines and visit Noisy Water!

“…I'd give you a taste of this nice new sauvignon blanc... It's going to go perfectly with the appetizers…."Jamie savored a tiny sip, and smiled blissfully. "You're right. It's delicious."
