A Traditional Portuguese Wine With A New Mexican Twist

Nuevo Verde is our tribute to the great Vinho Verdes of Portugal with our own NWW New Mexican twist. Vinho Verde refers to a region in Portugal where grapes are grown to make that signature slightly fizzy and refreshing wine we have grown to love. There are several origin stories behind the name Vinho Verde, including the idea that it is harvested early and should be drunk young. Typically, these wines are released three to six months after the grapes are harvested, which can be red, white or rosé.

 
 

This bright and fresh wine pairs with fish tacos, salads and sushi and is the perfect friend to accompany you to a picnic on a beach on your Winter vacation-pretend or not! This wine reminds us of grapefruit, white melon and lemonade and is bright and refreshing.

Harvested from the unforgiving Forbidden Desert Vineyard these beautiful white grapes made this a memorable and easy to drink wine. This is a great wine to enjoy while picking up a new hobby or to just chill out with after a busy day.

Noisy November

November in the wine industry marks the conclusion of harvest and the beginning of wine making. We are making room in the production facility and putting new vintages in the bottle! Here is what November will look like at Noisy Water Winery!

November in the wine industry marks the conclusion of harvest and the beginning of wine making.  We are now transferring 2018 and 2019 red wines from barrel to bottle, and 2020 white wines from tank to bottle.  Keep your eyes open for new vintages - many will be coming out in the next few months as we make room in the winery for new wine! 

 

It is likely that 2017 and 2018 vintages will be transferred to the library soon - don't forget to stock up on your favorites before they go on reserve!

November also marks the beginning of truffle hunting season!

 

We honor this magical time of year by indulging in decadent truffle oil! Have you tried it? 

It is amazing (obviously) on Italian dishes like risotto and pasta carbonara, but it is also wonderful for marinating meats, enhancing egg scrambles and hashes, and drizzling on popcorn with sea salt.

The intense heat of summer brought harvest early this year. We spent much of the fall season drinking Uncle Dick's Hard Cider and playing frisbee golf after work at Enchanted Vine - the weather felt almost too nice late into October.  Then, out of no where, we had our first snow day of year! We spent the day snuggled up at home, pretending we couldn't possibly work, playing cards, and drinking our favorite snowy day wines!

 

This little taste of winter got us pretty excited for the holiday season. We can't wait for all the food, wine, and family time!

Harvest Update!

slowing down, sort of…
Harvest Update

We are in the final stretch of grape harvest! With summer temperatures climbing in early June, we received and crushed most of our grapes before Labor Day weekend - we normally expect to be harvesting into mid-October! What might we do with this unexpected lull in September? We have plans…
 

Though wine crush is slowing down, we are staying just as busy with fruit from our neighbors in the Hondo Valley. We are receiving beautiful apples and pears by the bin.  We will be making fresh Uncle Dick's Hard Cider to pour for you out of our Silo Bar at Enchanted Vine. Our Silo Bar is open from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm daily.
 
The Enchanted Vine Barn is also where we will be celebrating the release of the new Tighty Whitey.  You heard the buzz about the new label, but have you tasted the wine?  This batch is made with grapes from the Forbidden Desert Vineyard - which means the grapes were obsessively cared for by the famous Uncle Richard (Uncle Dick).  The new Tighty Whitey White is even brighter, cleaner, and more crisp than prior vintages.

A light floral nose with a middle of mingling pear and honey.  Subtle hints of chamomile and ginger add to a pleasing finish.

How does this harvest compare to prior years? First, it was early and hot! Once again 2020 caught us off-guard…. damn you 2020.  Second, there was an influx of the bird population in New Mexican vineyards which left many vines picked over by birds before harvest.  This means the harvest was lean and batches will be slightly smaller.  If you fall in love with a 2020 vintage New Mexico wine, stock up - they will likely be more limited than prior years!

The grapes though… well, the birds were right.  It is BEAUTIFUL quality fruit and we will be eager to put the final product in the bottle!  By the end of October we will be bottling 2020 white and rosé wine, the remaining 2018 red wine, and some of the 2019 red wine.  November is going to be a month of welcoming new wines to the Noisy family - just in time for the holiday season!
 
 
Back at the Forbidden Desert Vineyard were the living isn't easy, Richard is already strategizing for next year. He is busy mowing, mending soil, repairing trellises, and winter fertilizing.  He is also prepping old blocks of the vineyard so we can plant new vines in the spring.  As usual, he is obsessing over every detail and tending to the vines with the upmost care.

Richard's love of the Forbidden Dessert isn't unjustified - this vineyard (and his love for it) produces amazing grapes.

New Vineyard in Engle, NM

We have big news...


We're taking on a not-so-new vineyard!
 
 

Noisy Water Winery is taking over one of the oldest vineyards in New Mexico in a small town just outside of Truth or Consequences called Engle.  This old vineyard is filled with acres of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Chenin Blanc, and the biggest, baddest Cabernet Sauvignon vines you've ever seen! 

We're already in the process of pruning, implementing more sustainable water practices, and planting seeds to create a more biodynamic vineyard environment.
If you haven't already guessed, the man on the right is Jasper's uncle, Richard. Uncle Richard has over 40 years of experience in farming and will be taking over vineyard management... or, as he likes to tell us, he'll be "out standing in his field"... Get it?

The Story of Demigod
Demigod

It's sort of weird story ↓

Our 2017 Demigod, a Cabernet Sauvignon blend, is a homage to the first lover of wine: the mythical Roman God, Bacchus.

The story goes like this: Bacchus is born part mortal/part god or what we would call a Demigod. He is said to be the god of grape harvest, wine, fertility, and, our favorite, ritual madness. 
 
What is meant by ritual madness? It is apparently characterized by maniacal dancing, whirling, screaming, and a sort of trippy, out of body experience. It is also described as "diving deep into the ecstasy of drunkenness". 

Demigod entices us in with ripe cherries on the nose, turns to rich dark fruit and vanilla on the palate and leaves us longing with a silky-smooth finish.  It is bright and dangerously easy to drink!

Beware: ritual madness may emerge after consumption. 

The label was drawn by local tattoo artist, Isa Dykhoff.  She also tattooed this image on someone from the winery... any guesses who?  

**Wine was consumed prior to this decision.
 

Demigod is celebration of harvest, wine, and the ritual madness we reserve for special occasions... like Thursday night... you know, a rare event.

Wine Makes You Skinny

 

Happy Monday!
We have good news...

So we have all heard a small glass of red wine each day can be good for your heart, right? But did you ever think it may also make you skinny?! I know, we sound crazy.  Scroll down for some science
 

Where does the magic happen: Ellagic Acid, Resveratrol, & Piceattanol, that's where.
These 3 components in wine are pretty amazing!
Ellagic acid was shown in a lab to reduce glucose levels and lower fat accumulation in the liver, resveratrol reduces the absorption of glucose by human fat cells and piceatannol was found to prevent fat cells from converting into fatty tissue.  Don't believe us? We read about it on Wine Spectator and they have no reason be biased right? 
 
And if you don't believe Wine Spectator, ask the Italians! Italian food is rich with bread, pasta, cheese, butter, oils and all of the delicious ingredients standardly restricted on a diet meant to ensure a bangin' beach body.  When we ask our Italian friends how they eat such an indulgent diet,  their eyes sparkle and they smile as they tell us "it's the wine".  Round of applause everyone. They win at life.
