Wine Of The Week - Jo Mamma's White

My introduction to Noisy Water Winery and its wines happened on a sunny day about ten years ago. Walking through mid-town Ruidoso, I was intrigued by the sign on the sidewalk in front of what, upon a passing glance, seemed to be a t-shirt shop, pointing the way inside to “wine tasting”. Not aware that such a practice as “wine tasting” even existed, I decided to see what that was all about. And the first wine poured into my glass to taste was Jo Mamma's White. It was, to say the least, a life-changing experience.

At that point, I knew nothing about wine varietals; about acidity or tannins; about blends or bouquets or body; or what made wines sweet or dry. All I knew was that I really, REALLY liked what was in the glass. And I kept coming back.

Eventually, I kept coming back so much that they put me on the payroll. And while I've learned so much about wines in the years since and expanded my palate to enjoy drier wines (red as well as white), there remains a spot in my heart for my first Noisy Water love, Jo Mamma's White.

A blend of Riesling, Gewurtztraminer, and Moscato grapes, Jo Mamma's White is undeniably sweet, with hints of apple and apricot giving it a summery orchard fruit finish. Yet it's crisp, with a clean refreshing finish, making it an enjoyable indulgence on a hot day. While it's clearly a wine made with sweet drinkers in mind, many dry drinkers enjoy the fun yet complex blend that has made Jo Mamma's White a multi-award winning wine since its introduction. An homage to all the mammas who encourage us to follow our dreams but be true to ourselves, it's a perfect “girls' night in” wine (because who needs to go out when you've got this wine in the fridge?)

This easy sipping wine is made for sharing over a platter of cheeses (try some of our hand-crafted New Mexico cheeses, available on our website and in our stores) and fresh fruits. It's also perfect for bringing a touch of summer to the dreariest winter days. Any day with a little Jo Mamma is a great day!
